Interview after the drop…

Hey Zhou, tell POBmix a bit about yourselves.
We’re a bass music production duo based in Bristol. We’re both 19 and have been making tracks together since the age of 17.

Where are you from?
Amos: I grew up in South Bristol and am currently living out in N.Somerset.
Cris: I’m from Exeter originally but I moved up to Bristol in June.

How did you get into music?
Amos: I started playing guitar when I was twelve, and have been in several bands since, I am still playing rhythm guitar in a ska / reggae band called The Suitables. I started producing hip hop with the singer of my band on my old PC running Reason, and have been making electronic music ever since.

POB crew are all loving your productions, how did you get into it?
Amos: A lot of it comes from the music our friends have been doing, and when I started going to clubs I knew that I wanted to try making music that was as bass-heavy as what I was hearing there.
Cris: From age 10 I learned bass guitar and started listening to Roots Reggae and Dub records and then became fascinated by the creative use space echo and tape delay. I did my first recordings onto ADAT tape, experimenting with different mics’ and hardware to find new sounds. Also I’ve always been into computers too and as technology has advanced, I’ve loved the endless possibilities for synthesis and recording, developing and learning techniques.

High points for you so far?
Amos: Having our track Don’t Move on Back To Chill Radio Podcast in Japan.
Cris: Getting the track Aakrosh remixed by both Kähn and Will.

How would you describe what you play?
2-Step / Bass Music / Dub

Who’s doing it for you right now?
ENA, Vessel, Miles Davis, B-LAM, Cooly G, LV, J Dilla, Mala, Captain Sinbad, Tapes, Scuba, Kode 9, Throwing Snow.

What’s next for you?
Cris: We’ve got lots of collaborations brewing, plans for a live show, and we’re soon to appear on a vinyl from A Future Without.
